Heat Alert in Dhaka: Heat Alert Extended For 72 Hours

Heat Alert in Dhaka: Moderate to intense heat waves are sweeping across the country including the capital Dhaka. The Department of Meteorology has issued the fifth phase of heat alert across the country stating that this may continue. Such warnings are issued when a heatwave occurs over a large area.

This information was given in a heat flow warning signed by Md Hafizur Rahman, a meteorologist of the Meteorological Department on Sunday. The warning said that the heatwave over the country may continue for the next 72 hours from Sunday. The warning also notes that excess water vapor may increase discomfort. On April 19, the Meteorological Department issued a 72-hour heat alert across the country for the first time. Later two more heat alerts were issued.

Excessive Heat Today

If the heat wave increases to extreme levels, there is also a risk of more severe natural disasters. Besides, it can cause death if it goes beyond human tolerance. Therefore, the Meteorological Department issues heat alerts to warn everyone about the upcoming severe heat wave. Amid the continuous heat waves across the country, the temperature dropped slightly on Saturday, but there was no relief in public life. Especially Chuadanga, Pabna, Rajshahi and other districts of the northern region are still hot.

Earlier, Chuadanga recorded the season’s highest temperature of 42.7 degrees Celsius last Friday. And in Dhaka it was 38.2. Meteorologist Omar Farooq of the Meteorological Department said that rain is likely to start from May 2 later this week and it is likely to continue for a few days. Then the temperature will drop.

What is Heat Alert?

A heat wave is an extremely hot weather. And the warning issued about this heat wave is basically heat alert or heat wave alert. If the heat wave increases to an extreme level, there is also a fear of bigger natural disasters. Besides, it can cause death if it goes beyond human tolerance. Therefore, the Meteorological Department issues heat alerts to warn everyone about the upcoming severe heat wave.

According to the weather forecast till 6 pm on Sunday, two places of Chittagong and Sylhet divisions may experience rain with gusty wind or rain with thunder. Along with that, hailstones may rain sporadically at some places. Elsewhere in the country, the weather will remain mainly dry with partly cloudy sky.

Day temperatures may increase slightly and night temperatures may remain almost unchanged across the country. The Meteorological Department has also said that there may be discomfort due to excess water vapor.

This April is the longest heat wave in the history of the last 76 years. According to the Meteorological Department, 7-8 Kalbaisakhi-thunderstorms occur in April every year. But this year there was only one. This time the number of storms is small. Which happened in Sylhet division. Yesterday the highest temperature of the country was recorded in Chuadanga at 42.7 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature has decreased slightly in Dhaka. The maximum temperature in Dhaka was 37.4 degrees Celsius.


Meteorological experts say that the normal amount of rain in the first four months of the year is less than this. Due to this, the hot weather continues throughout the month of April. Although there is a chance of rain for a few days from May 2, people will have to bear the heat in that month as well. 

But some relief may return towards the end of May. At that time, the Meteorological Department gave a glimpse of the decrease in temperature due to cold weather and intermittent rain.
