Westminster Dog Show 2024: Schedule, Winners & How To Watch

Westminster Dog Show 2024: So, finally, it’s time for the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show of 2024! Since 1948, the show has been broadcast on television every year, making it the second-longest running sports event in the United States. Thousands of exceptional dogs compete in numerous judged categories, the famous dog show, agility, obedience, and a new category this year: a dock diving trial, at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.

Judges evaluate breeding stock quality at the dog show, and winning breeders will be awarded for their ability to produce purpose-bred dogs that meet their specified breed requirements. There are seven categories for dogs: herding, non-sporting, working, hound, sporting, and toy.

Details About Westminster Dog Show 2024

More than 2,500 dogs representing 213 different breeds will be on display during the exhibition. The Lancashire Heeler is a new breed that has joined the herding group this year, adding to the already extensive list of breeds.

To officially mark the occasion, one of the seven groups will be named Best in Show after each produces a winner. The Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen named Buddy Holly took home the Best in Show title last year. The hound group has won Best in Show for the past two years, despite the fact that terriers have historically been the most successful group at the show.

Every dog will compete against other dogs in the group it has been assigned to, and points will be given for each dog’s victories over other dogs. Therefore, the winner will receive more points the more dogs that compete in any given event.

Dogs will be evaluated in accordance with a predetermined standard that describes the perfect dog in terms of height, weight, coat color, eye color and shape, ear shape, paws, tail, and other characteristics. The 210 dogs that are awarded Best of Breed proceed to participate in Best in Group events, where the top dogs will fight for the prestigious Best In Show title.

For the second year in a row, the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, New York, will host the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. Live updates and results, such as Best in Show and winners by breed and group, were tracked by Sporting News.
